SUMMER LEAGUE
There will be no Summer League this year. It would seem there is not much interest in such a competition at the moment. However, around March next year, the idea of a summer league will be re-kindled to see the reaction of clubs to this.

This years Reyner Shield is between Bolton 1 and 3Cs 1 and will take place at the YMCA Bolton on Monday evening 7-15, 19th May. A commentary will take place by Julian Clissold, I understand, and spectators are welcome to come along with their children to see whats going on. This is a good effort to raise the profile of the event and should pass a couple of hours pleasantly.
BOLTON LEAGUE QUICKPLAY JAMBOREE 10th May 2008.
This was a good enjoyable event. It is for teams of 4 players. Five rounds played to a quickplay time limit. There are good equipment prizes for the winning teams.
On a hot sunny day in Little lever, nine teams battled it out for the Championship. Favourites Bolton, duly obliged by winning the event, but they didn't have it all their own way. Second place Worsley 1 defeated them in their individual match. It was good to see a junior side from Didsbury playing, a pity Bolton Juniors were not present as well. A happy Bolton Captain Ian Lamb, being presented with the "Peter Worsley Memorial Trophy" by John Webster. Adam Scoular Captain of the Worsley 1 team, being presented with a chess clock. On the right is Harry Lamb and left is Jill Barber Captain of Didsbury. Great Lever and Worsley 1 in action.

The top table players in action
IM Jeff Horner (centre facing) playing J Hanley. Jeff won the Blitz section with 100% score.
Arbiter's table and bookstall.
Mike Surtees (hat) deep in thought playing J Wardley.
GM Stewart Haslinger (right) playing A Jaunooby in round 3. The game was an attacking spectacular.
The Open section was the strongest for several years, with two GMs and one IM. After three rounds only two players were on maximum points, GMs Nigel Davies and Stewart Haslinger. Davies defeated Haslinger in a rook and knight + three pawns vs rook + five pawns ending, in their fourth round encounter. A draw between Nigel Davies and James Hanley in round five ensured that Nigel won the event.
RESULTS OPEN: 1st GM Nigel Davies (ADS/Widnes) 4½/5, 2-3. GM S Haslinger (Formby), James Hanley (Lancaster) 4. MAJOR U-160 ECF: Mark Whitehead (Rochdale), Paul Evans (Blackpool) 4½/5. KNIGHTS U-120 ECF: Daniel Broughton (West Bridgeford) 4½/5 BUSY PERSONS BLITZ: Jeff Horner (Bolton) 8/8.

The Roger Griffith Cup Final for 2008 was played at the Ukranian Centre on the 15th January. The result was a little surprising in the fact that Radcliffe beat the holders, Bolton A, comfortably by 4-2. Congratulations to the deserved winning team. 13/12/07 Hi All,
I would hereby like to inform the whole Bolton Chess fraternity of the inaugural Bolton District Chess League Christmas Social. This will take place on Friday, December 28, at the Ukrainian Centre, Castle Street, Bolton, from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
It's an afternoon to take a break from the seasonal festivities and meet up with friends of a like mind, for amiable conversation and perhaps a convivial game of chess or two. Should a number of participants fancy having an impromptu tournament, then that might also be possible; however, there will be no prizes, save for the kudos of becoming the ultimate winner!
The main idea is to chat and socialise. So, please inform your club members, that those who might like to come down would be aware of the chance of a respite from, what for many of us is, a hectic time of the year.
I hope to see many of you there!
Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year!
In Chess
Pete Kobryn.

The final of the Roger Griffiths Cup is set for the 15th January at the Ukranian Centre, Castle Street, Bolton. Anyone wishing to attend the match will be most welcome.
30/11/07 I am very pleased to have been asked to design this website and hope that it will prove useful to the Bolton League members. One of the bones of contention was the lack of a genuine site dedicated to updated results and information, with this site we hope to fill all members needs. 4/11/07
